Guinness World Record Attempt
AUSTRALIA DAY 26th January 2014.
Who: Surf the Bay Surf School in partnership with Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club attempted to break the Guinness World record for “The most Surfers Riding the same wave” on Australia Day 2014. It was hosted at the infamous North Broulee Beach, renown for it’s beautiful views, pristine sands and safe, family friendly conditions. It has also been a magnet for up and coming surfers with consistently good surf conditions and two headlands to protect it from winds one of which is Broulee Island which makes another spectacle and activity for visitors with over 4 kilometres of picturesque beach walking. Surf the Bay would like to thank all the Sponsors, Volunteers, Lifeguards, Surf Instructors and most importantly the participants for making this day a very memorable one for many reasons. Firstly we were attempting to raise money for two very important local lifesaving services; Broulee Surfers Surf Lifesaving Club and the South Coast Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter service. Thanks to all involved we raised over $10,000 for these services which will assist them in continuing their invaluable jobs on the South Coast of NSW. We also created an amazing spectacle for over 2000 onlookers and generated a great sense of community with a lot of like minded people joining to celebrate a very special environment (the ocean) that we sometimes take for granted. Although we had close to 300 participants and conditions were fantastic, we fell short of the current record of 110 riding the same wave by about 15 people. We had 95 standing in our best attempt. Stay tuned as we plan to give this record another crack in the near future. We also have BIG plans to bring you other ocean based major fundraising events in our local community of Broulee.
