About us
Surf the Bay is owned and operated by Tim Lassau and Glenn Hall, both fully qualified school teachers (primary and secondary PDHPE respectively). All of our coaches are ASI (Academy of Surfing Instructors) Accredited level 1 coaches and all hold their Surf Lifesaving Bronze Medallions and Senior 1st Aid Certificates. All instructors are active members of our local Surf Lifesaving Clubs in Batemans Bay, Broulee and Moruya where they attend regular voluntary patrols.
Tim was born and bred in the Batemans Bay area. Being a 3rd generation local, Tim knows just about all there is to know about the local area and its beautiful beaches. After completing his Bachelor of Teaching and Bachelor of Education (primary) Degrees in Wollongong, he travelled over seas, teaching swimming and lifeguarding at a summer camp in Pennsilvania, USA. Following that, Tim moved to London where he taught in a special needs primary school for a year before hitting the road again. This time Going to Whistler, Canada where he completed his snowboard instructors coarse while living there for the season. After a bit more travelling and surfing around the globe, Tim found himself back in his home town of Batemans Bay where he has been casual teaching in the locals schools since. He has been teaching surfing since 2005 and has loved every minute of it! Tim’s passion for surfing and SUPing is second only to the love of his young growing family.
Glenn finished his HSC in 1996 and signed a contract with St George Rugby League club in 1997. He was also employed by St. George as a junior rugby league development officer. He completed commitments with St. George and spread his wings travelling to America. Glenn worked as a Wakeboard/water-ski instructor in California, USA. He then travelled to Canada and worked as a snowboard instructor for the Whistler/Blackcomb Kids snowboard program in British Columbia. Following this his Endless Summer adventure began, Surfing and backpacking from Vancouver Island, Canada all the way down the West coast of the USA and into Central America. He ended up in Costa Rica following the path of Pat, Wing-nut and Rob (The endless Summer 2 Surf movie), finding all the secret spots. Returning to Australia in 2001, Glenn completed a double degree (Bach. Human Movement, Bach. Teaching Secondary) marrying Fiona in 2005 and travelled Europe for 18 months for their extended honey-moon. Glenn found the best job in the world in Ireland, working as a Rally Driving Instructor for Rally School Ireland. Now back in Australian, working as a PDHPE teacher at Batemans Bay High School and Running a Surf School. Life is good!
